Sustainability
Technical Textiles Business
We strive to be a good corporate citizen, trusted by all stakeholders. Through our operations, we try to make a positive contribution towards the environment and the community we live and operate in.
Use of Renewable Energy
We have expanded the use of renewable energy at SRF’s Technical Textiles Business (TTB) facilities, taking into consideration the perspectives of environmental, regional, and economic factors.
5 MWp
Solar Power Plant
In December 2017, SRF commissioned a 5 MWp Solar Power Plant at its TTB facility in Gummidipoondi, Tamil Nadu, India. The project was completed in a record time of eight months and comprises 15,680 Polycrystalline Solar panels spread across an area of 25 acres of plant land. This is SRF’s first Solar Power Plant and the first in-campus Solar Power Plant of 5MWp capacity in the state of Tamil Nadu.
15,365 MWh
Total Solar Power generated till date
Our Solar Power project meets the Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) for all our TTB plants in Tamil Nadu. The total solar power generated till March 2020 stands at 15,365 MWh, which is equivalent to offsetting 14,443 tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. As per guidelines prescribed by the Central Electricity Authority of India, the green power generated from this project is comparable to carbon sequestered by 320,956 trees in a span of 2.25 years.
14 MW
Wind Power Generation
SRF operates nine windmills with a total power generation capacity of 14 megawatts.
360,000 MWh
Total Wind Power generated till date
Since its inception in 2008 till March 2020, the total wind power generated is 360,000 MWh, which is equivalent to offsetting 338,400 tons of carbon dioxide. The green energy generated through this project is equivalent to planting 1,410,000 trees.
24,23,077 KWh
Per Annum of units saved
Power saved across all TTB plants since 2018 through various initiatives such as the overhauling and modernization of utility equipment, replacement of CFL/conventional lighting with energy efficient LED lamps, fan blades with light weight FRP blades, installation of motion detector/day light detection sensors.
600+
trees are planted by TTB employees
Every year on World Environment Day, more than 600 trees are planted by TTB employees across all locations. As a customary gesture to honor every visiting guest to our facilities, one tree is planted in the plant premises.
Other Energy Saving Measures
At TTB Gummidipoondi, canteen food waste is used in the biogas plant and the resultant gas produced is re-used in the canteen to cook food (Highest Consumption – 24 m3/day).
Water Efficiency
One of our planet’s most precious resources, water, is conserved at all TTB plants through recycling and rainwater harvesting measures. Consequently, all TTB plants are Zero Liquid Discharge Units. All plants are equipped with rainwater harvesting systems and 30-50% of water requirement is fulfilled through recycling across all the plants.
Efficient Packaging
TTB facilities follow the 3R principle of Reduce; Reuse; Recycle.
All metal shell rolls used in the packaging of the fabric rolls are recollected from the domestic customers and reused multiple times.
Through the optimization of packing material, we are saving 48 trees per annum, equivalent to 2 MT of paper production at our facility in Gwalior. Furthermore, in Gwalior we have successfully reduced the paper tube consumption by 10% through various recycling and re-use procedures, resulting in saving of 1,500 trees per annum and reduction of carbon emissions by 150 tons per annum
Waste Management
All TTB plants are running in line with the global benchmark of waste (%).
Human Rights & Sustainability
Respect for Human Rights
SRF complies with all local and national laws and regulations. We conduct our business operations with honesty and integrity. In order to contribute to sustainable development, we ensure that management interacts with its stakeholders on a regular basis through open and fair communication channels. Since our employees spend a considerable amount of time at work, we aim to create positive working conditions and an environment that allows them to excel. We do not discriminate or allow any unhealthy and unsafe work environment at any of our manufacturing sites. Further, SRF strictly adheres to a ‘no child labor’ policy across all its units. This policy is appropriately displayed at the main entrance of all its units across the country.
Freedom of Association
We believe in transparency and ensure that all employees have a clear vision of management goals, issues and the surrounding environment. We respect our employees’ right to freely associate while also respecting their right not to be compelled to belong to an association in compliance with the laws of the land. SRF has taken every opportunity it can to engage thorough dialogue with employees and build healthy labor relations.
Health and Safety
We have a robust occupational safety and health management policy in place, across all our locations. Ensuring zero accidents at all worksites is the responsibility of the management. Systems have been put in place to ensure our endeavor towards health & safety is active and continuous.
Community Initiatives
SRF Vidyalaya
Enriching the lives of the underserved around our plant locations, has been an integral part of SRF’s growth story.
Established in 1991, SRF Vidyalaya is a school supported by TTB in Manali, Tamil Nadu. Under the tutelage of Vivekananda Educational Trust, SRF Vidyalaya follows the State Board (equitable standard) syllabus with an emphasis on the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2005. The school endeavors to create classrooms that encourage learning and bring quality education to underprivileged children. Today, it has a student population of close to 765 children from kindergarten to high school level and 45 teachers.
Furthermore, to engage the youth in meaningful employment, SRF runs the JCB & Forklift Operator training program in Manali since 2014. The program equips youth with precise skills required to operate, manage and maintain JCB and Forklift machinery. To date, more than 400+ students have been trained.
In addition, our corporate social responsibility arm, SRF Foundation runs the ‘World on Wheels’ digital bus in partnership with HP India in villages around our plants in Gwalior and Gummidipoondi to promote e-learning for children, skills & entrepreneurship for youth and digital-based services for the community.
HP Common Services Lab (CSL)
HP Common Services Lab (CSL) is another education initiative of SRF Foundation that aims to positively impact over 5000 youth, community and students through e-learning, e-health, entrepreneurship programs and by making digital and health services accessible. It is an integration of e-education, e-health & e-citizen services built over a standard 40 ft ISO shipping container. It is stationed at SRF’s Manali plant in Tamil Nadu and provides services to communities in and around Manali.
