Our Founders – Legendary Contributors to varied Indian Industries!

Sir Shri Ram

(April 27, 1884 – Jan 11, 1963)

In 1909, Sir Shri Ram joined DCM Ltd. Under his leadership, DCM transformed into an industrial empire, manufacturing a vast variety of goods like textiles, sugar, chemicals, vanaspati, pottery, fans, sewing machines, electric motors and capacitors.

Sir Shri Ram became the President of FICCI in 1930 and was knighted by the British Monarch, George VI in the year 1941. He was also one of the seven architects of the Bombay Plan of 1944-45. In 1957, Sir Shri Ram became the Chairman of the public sector Sindri Fertilizers & Chemicals. Sir Shri Ram was an advocate of education. He set up the Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) in 1926 and the Lady Shri Ram College for Women (LSR) in 1956. Both the colleges are recognized as India’s top academic institutes.

Dr. Bharat Ram

(October 15, 1914 – July 11, 2007)

Dr. Bharat Ram, S/o Sir Shri Ram rose to the position of Chairman and Managing Director of DCM Ltd. in 1958. He held a number of prestigious offices during his professional life. He served as the President of FICCI in 1965 and became the Chairman of Indian Airlines in 1967. In 1969, he became the first Asian President of the International Chamber of Commerce.

The Indian Government awarded the Padma Bhushan to Dr. Bharat Ram in 1972.

Dr. Bharat Ram founded Shri Ram Fibres in 1970, which was predominantly a technical textiles company. In 1989, Shri Ram Fibres diversified beyond technical textiles and entered the chemicals business to manufacture refrigerants.

Consequently, Shri Ram Fibres was renamed SRF Limited in 1990.
